2) Gels at the nanoscale: from viscous flow to elastic response

Airit Agasty was born in Kolkata, India. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2012. After working at the construction of a steel plant for the next two years, Airit decided to pursue his Master’s in Rubber Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, and graduated in 2016. He was the recipient of the prestigious DAAD scholarship to work on his Master’s thesis and research on a 7-month exchange programme at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research in Dresden until March, 2016. This research work was based on the development of novel thermally induced stimuli responsive elastomers, with the main focus being on producing fatty acid salt based ionomers that would show shape memory behaviour.

In March 2017, Airit Agasty joined the department of Soft Condensed Matter at the IPC led by Prof. Robert Hołyst, as part of the NaMeS PhD program under the MSCA-COFUND grant, where currently he is working on determination of crossover length-scale between viscous flow in gels at the nanoscale and elastic response of gels at the macroscale.
