6th MCAA General Assembly and annual conference

Nabila Yasmeen has attended  the MCAA General Assembly and annual conference as a MCAA member and volunteer organizer, in the University of Vienna, Austria. The basic objective of the annual conference is to provide the information on the future expected pathways for researchers, after completion of their PhD studies.

Therefore, in this respect Nabila have participated in three workshops. First was about writing the sucessful applications for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, as well as tips for supervisors planning to host a fellow. Second one was about the project proposal writing for gaining the funding opportunities offered by the Austrian Science Fund, FWF.

The last and important workshop was about the writing skills of the European Research Council, ERC Grant in the short or in the long-term run. The speaker provided information about the key features and funding schemes of the ERC to support early and mid-career researchers in establishing their independent research agenda and team.

Besides, Nabila Yasmeen have also attended one session about the Career paths for researchers outside the academia. The focus of the speakers in those session was to put an attention towards the increase need and demand for the majority of doctoral candidates, postdocs and tenure track researchers in the industrial sectors. Speakers shared their experiences behind their career transitions, and also highlighted the soft-skills that were instrumental to their success.

Overall, the participation in the conference helped Nabila in understanding of the proposal writing for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship and for getting funding from the Austrian Science Fund, FWF. Moreover, the sessions about the Career transitions helped her in understanding the necessary requirements like mastery of the certain soft skills (e.g. critical thinking, leadership, communication) for getting good career opportunities outside the academia. Furthermore, the ERC seesion helped her in getting few practical and valuable tips for maintaining her employment status within academia.
