Optical Microscopy Imaging for Biosciences course

2019-05-15

Faria Khan participated in the one week long course on Optical Microscopy Imaging for Biosciences. The objective of the mobility was to acquire new practical skills on advanced imaging techniques used as well as the background theory and software tools involved in the in vitro study. There were two modules of the course: the background knowledge on the use of optical microscopes (wide field microscopy, confocal microscopy, live cell imaging, transmission microscopy and STED microscopy) with hands-on practical training and data acquistion from in vitro samples.

The skills acquired can help establish baselines for cell culture based toxicological screening of compounds, molecular and intracellular level changes tracking after being subjected to dosage and to carry out high through put assays. Various modules of the course involved lectures and hands-on lab trainings and instrumentational knowledge by renowned field experts from academia and industry. Furthermore, an important aspect covered during the training involved the processing of biological data attained through bioimaging, bioinformatics tools and correct use of softwares to attain a deconvulated quantitaive data from qualitative images.
