Lab visit to the Radbound University

2020-02-10

From 1st to 29th of December, 2019, Ying Zhou had a lab visit at prof. Huck’s group, Institute for Molecules and Materials, Radbound University, the Netherlands. The main purpose of her trip was to gain theoretic knowledge and practical experiences of microfluidic technologies. Also Ying Zhou discussed with prof. Huck’s about the projects she will do as part of her secondment and wrote a small proposal for a sub-project of her studies.

During the first week, Ying Zhou had a safety training and passed the safety exams. In the second week, she was trained to prepare the microfluidic devices from abolishing the glass capillaries to assembling the devices efficiently. From the third week, Ying was trained to adjust and test her devices under the imaging system and generate double emulsions. Next, she did the literature searching and wrote a proposal about immobilizing double emulsions on the microfluidic devices.

Generally, Ying Zhou learnt a basic knowledge about the new technologies and was inspired for the future research.
